Unconventional Encounter: József Attila's texts at B29

"I came here expecting it to be boring, but this performance was really good! It was direct, unconventional, and innovative. You had to pay attention."

On Tuesday, at the B29 Youth Community Center, we presented our performance titled "I Am Not, Only Others See", consisting of József Attila's texts, to the students of the Bethlen Gábor Primary School and High School. The unconventional literature class, realized with the support of the Municipality of Újbuda, provided a perfect space for getting to know the poet's life and texts, and for contemplating them further. From the first moments, the attention of the youth was perceptible, and we experienced a true Encounter through Theater. We thank the school for their trust, the openness of the youth, and for the thoughts and many questions raised during the discussion following the performance. Topics such as loneliness, lack of parental presence, searching for one's path, visions of the future, love, and its absence were addressed. It was great to experience how relevant József Attila's texts are for the youth!

Innovation and Inspiration: the Osonó Theatre in Youth Education

2020 fb hu.jpg

While the majority of the troupe was on a tour in England, life in Budapest did not stand still: we also held an interactive "presentation" at the Sapientia University of Theology as part of the ongoing professional development for youth educators.

Within the framework of a "training demo," Bernát Benyhe introduced participants to the techniques used in Osonó's teacher training sessions. The presentation also emphasized the methodology developed during our autumn Erasmus projects in partnership with the Svung Creative Association.

It was inspiring to be part of the conference titled "New Paths for Teachers in the Age of Information Explosion," organized by the Hungarian Province of the Piarist Order, alongside such esteemed speakers as Professor Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Viktor Jilly, a pioneering master educator who became renowned for his groundbreaking television lessons in foreign language teaching in Hungary.

"This performance made me think. It touched me deeply. It was as liberating as therapy!"

On Saturday, at the Hungarian House of London, we presented our performance titled "I Am Not, Only Others See", based on the texts of József Attila, twice. It was great to meet, converse, and present our performance to the local community in connection with the Day of Theatre and Hungarian Poetry. During the audience meeting, there was much discussion about homelessness, searching for meaning, traumas, loneliness, solitude, exclusion, migration, and the relevance of emotions present in the texts of József Attila. We are grateful for the attentive audience, for the personal and profound thoughts shared during the post-performance discussion. We thank Attila Korpos for the organization and the warm hospitality!
